Experiment 1

This was a lazy Saturday dub techno experiment to try to get more familiar with the Syntakt. Figuring out a simple bassline was satisfying, and I tried to layer two different kicks and just make sure the mix wasn't too stuffy so I had room to fool around with the FX block a bit.

Bass was the trickiest and most interesting element to figure out. I wound up using SY Bits heavily detuned. A bit of waveform modulation and resonant filter movement goes a long way, though I tried to take it easy since the dub chord and delay handling should be the star.

I guess my one other note is that trying to perform this helped me understand why people like MIDI controllers with labels. Jumping between track settings, the mixer page, mute mode, etc was non-trivial. I also think some samples could go a long way towards giving things more life, not to mention using more than the three patterns I had to change things up a bit more. Still a fun experiment. In the end I just recorded the audio with audacity, dumped it into bitwig, and added some light compression and limiting.
